Country music star Jillian Cardarelli has revealed she is battling breast cancer at the age of 33, admitting to feelings of 'fear and sadness' following the diagnosis. The singer, known for hits like 'Strong,' was diagnosed with stage two invasive ductal carcinoma on May 21. Just weeks earlier, she celebrated her fifth wedding anniversary and was actively working on new music while preparing to travel to Toronto for the second season of the show 'Crossroad Springs.'
Life Turned Upside Down
Three weeks after her diagnosis, Cardarelli says her life has been completely turned around. In a recent interview, she described being so focused on work, learning scripts, and writing music when everything came to a halt. 'And the next thing is doctors, scans, pathology reports and words I'd never even ... I feel like I'm learning a new language,' she told People magazine. Currently, doctors are developing a treatment plan for her, as she is in the early stages of the disease.
Emotional Rollercoaster
Cardarelli expressed a mix of emotions: 'I feel fear and sadness. I'm like, why did this happen? I do not fit the profile of somebody that should get cancer at 33 years old. So yes, there's a little bit of anger there. But I'm not angry at God. I'm leaning on Him more than ever as opposed to being angry at Him. But yes, I'm angry at the situation.' Despite these feelings, she remains hopeful because her doctors have given a positive prognosis, stating they are 'confident' the disease can be 'eradicated' and she will live a 'long, normal, healthy and happy life.'
Early Warning Signs
Before her diagnosis, Cardarelli sensed something was wrong. Since age 25, she had dense fibrous tissue in her breasts, but prior examinations and ultrasounds found nothing. She noticed her body felt 'different' and she was frequently tired. During a photoshoot requiring five costume changes, she felt the need to nap between each change. It was then she discovered a lump in her breast. Although she questioned if it could be dense tissue, 'something in her gut' told her it felt different, prompting her to get it checked immediately.
Treatment and Support
Cardarelli is being treated by the same oncologist who treated her mother, who has battled colon cancer for over a decade. While her treatment plan is not yet finalized, surgery is expected to be the first step, followed by a comprehensive plan. Her husband, Brian Parker, has been a steadfast support, described as a 'rock' throughout the process.
Cardarelli previously performed at President Donald Trump and Melania's National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in 2020 and 2025.
