Doting Dad, 29, Dies After Cancer Battle: Leaves Partner and Daughter

Graham Dodds, a 29-year-old father from Edinburgh, has died after a battle with a rare cancer, leaving behind his partner Camille and their 18-month-old daughter Amelia. He passed away at Victoria Hospice on June 29, 2026.

Rapid Onset of Symptoms and Diagnosis

Graham first became unwell in March 2025, shortly after Amelia's birth, experiencing pain he thought was a cyst. Despite the pain, he took his family on holiday to Portugal. Upon return, his groin turned purple, leading to MRI and CT scans. Four months later, he was diagnosed with high-grade epithelioid sarcoma.

Epithelioid sarcoma is a rare cancer that can occur anywhere in the body but often in the hands, arms, feet, and legs. It typically affects young adults and presents as a painless, slow-growing mass.

Treatment and Terminal Diagnosis

Graham began treatment in August 2025, including inpatient chemotherapy and radiotherapy at Christmas, which shrank some tumours. However, after Christmas, he was told the cancer was terminal and surgery was not an option. In January 2026, he started a new chemotherapy but had an allergic reaction, stopping treatment. His health deteriorated further in March.

Impact on Family

Camille told Edinburgh Live: "It all happened so quickly. It was difficult because this type of cancer is so rare. Graham kept things to himself to protect his family and friends but you could see how painful it was for him. He wasn't able to move and it was difficult for him to engage with Amelia. It was heartbreaking to watch." She added: "I stopped breastfeeding when he was diagnosed because I was so stressed. Amelia is too young to understand what's happened. I still feel like he is going to come back."

The family delayed Amelia starting nursery to avoid infection risks. Camille receives support from the hospice's bereavement counsellors.

Tributes to a Kind-Hearted Man

Graham, a Hearts fan, met Camille while working as civil servants at the Scottish Government in 2022. Camille described him as "cheeky but kind-hearted," loving his job, football, tennis, and running. Edinburgh Strollers, a team he played for, paid tribute: "We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of our former player, Graham. Everyone at Edinburgh Strollers sends our sincere condolences to Graham’s family, friends, and all who knew him. Rest in peace, Doddsy."
