Davina McCall reveals cardiovascular disease after brain tumour

Davina McCall has revealed she has been diagnosed with cardiovascular disease, urging women not to brush off symptoms as she spoke about the importance of heart health on World Menopause Day. The 58-year-old TV presenter shared the news on the most recent episode of her podcast, Begin Again.

What Davina said on her podcast

On the episode, Davina said: "I wanted to let you know, I also have cardiovascular disease, and this is a very important conversation to have."

She added: "Anyone can get sick and when I had my cancer experience, you just suddenly feel vulnerable in a way you weren't before... Once you've been ill, you think 'Oh, I thought I was invincible'."

World Menopause Day collaboration

In recognition of World Menopause Day, Davina teamed up with the British Heart Foundation to discuss the crucial subject of women's heart health. While she did not go into detail about her own circumstances, she encouraged everyone to get tested.

She said: "Heart attacks and cardiovascular disease is rife out there particular in women post menopause. If there's one takeaway today it's not to brush things off. Get your blood pressure and cholesterol checked, and if something feels wrong, listen to your body."

History of health challenges

In 2021, the health enthusiast - who launched a series of well-received fitness videos in the 2000s - revealed she was at risk of heart disease. She previously said: "When they said I had high cholesterol, I just looked at my GP and asked if it was a mistake!"

Despite consistently maintaining a slender physique, Davina eliminated fat and cheese from her diet and switched from full-fat to semi-skimmed milk, noting that this was a "big sacrifice."

The former Big Brother presenter - who shares Holly, 24, Tilly, 22, and Chester, 19 with ex-husband Matthew Robinson - was diagnosed with a benign brain tumour in late 2024 before discovering she had breast cancer less than a year later.

Cancer-free and new marriage

In April, she announced she was free from cancer and has praised her new husband, Michael Douglas, as the "kindest, smartest" man she has ever known for his support during her illness. The pair tied the knot last December and held a second ceremony in July.

She said: "I can't believe that I am at this ripe old age, with everything I've been through, and was lucky enough to experience it with him at my side. He had just the right mix of real wisdom, knowing the right thing to say at the right time, but also just the right side of funny."
