Daveigh Chase's Cause of Death Revealed: The Ring Star Died of AIDS at 35
Daveigh Chase's Cause of Death: AIDS at 35

Daveigh Chase, the actress best known for her chilling portrayal of Samara in the 2002 horror film The Ring, died of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) on June 16 at the age of 35, according to the LA County Medical Examiner. Chronic substance abuse was also ruled a contributing factor in her death.

Official Cause of Death Ruled as AIDS

The medical examiner determined that Chase passed away following a lengthy battle with AIDS, the advanced stage of HIV, which attacks the immune system and leaves the body vulnerable to other illnesses. The ruling also cited chronic substance abuse, including the repeated use of multiple drugs over time, as a significant contributing factor.

Chase died just two weeks before the announcement of her cause of death. Her boyfriend, Roy Hernandez, had previously disclosed her secret health battles, including a terrifying blood infection, and had launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for her care.

Boyfriend Reveals Health Struggles

In a statement on the fundraising page, Hernandez wrote: "Daveigh Chase, my girlfriend, has always been a light in my life. But behind the scenes, she’s faced more than her share of hardship. After a difficult childhood and a painful falling out with her family, Daveigh was bullied and struggled to find safety and happiness in downtown LA. When we met, I promised to protect her and give her the love and comfort she deserved."

He later updated supporters: "Daveigh was diagnosed with meningitis and several serious blood infections. Her condition has become critical, and the doctors have told me she may not have much time left. All she ever wanted was a place where we could live together, feel safe, and be happy."
