Pizza products sold at major retailers including Costco and Walmart have been recalled due to potential salmonella contamination. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced on Friday that certain batches of Champion Foods LLC's Motor City Pizza Co. 5 Cheese Bread contained a dry milk powder that was previously recalled by California Dairies, Inc. in April over salmonella concerns.
Details of the Recall
According to the FDA notice, the recalled milk powder was supplied to a third-party manufacturer that produces a seasoning blend used in the 5 cheese sauce. Champion Foods stated that routine testing by the seasoning blend manufacturer showed negative results for salmonella, but the recall was issued out of an abundance of caution.
The affected products include:
- Motor City Pizza Co. 5 Cheese Bread Single Pack (UPC: 8 70375 00511 1)
- Motor City Pizza Co. 5 Cheese Bread 2 Pack (UPC: 8 70375 00509 8)
Both have sell-by dates between February 3, 2027, and April 21, 2027, printed on the front of the box. The items were sold nationwide at retailers such as Walmart, Costco, Target, Kroger, Publix, and many others.
Costco Specifics
At Costco, the product (item number 1453434) was sold from February 6, 2026, to May 29, 2026. Costco members can return the item for a refund.
Health Risks
Salmonella infections can cause symptoms like diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps within 12 to 72 hours after consumption. While most recover without treatment, severe infections can occur in young children, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals. No illnesses have been reported to date.
Consumers with affected cheese breads should contact Champion Foods LLC at info@motorcitypizzacompany.com for further information. This recall follows a previous recall of Blackstone Parmesan Ranch seasoning last month, which also contained the contaminated dry milk powder.
