More than £100,000 has been raised for the family of a three-year-old boy who suffered serious injuries after being thrown into a zoo's crocodile pit. The boy has undergone seven operations since the incident on June 18 at Johnsons of Old Hurst near Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire.
He was thrown down the 7ft pit and required a nerve graft to regain movement in his left hand. A 12-hour operation followed after staff rescued him from the pit.
Suspect arrested and bailed
A 30-year-old man from Norfolk was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and later bailed. Police said he was 'assessed as not being fit for interview'. The suspect reportedly has learning difficulties and had been on a trip with carers; an investigation into his care has been launched.
Fundraising total exceeds £105,000
A fundraising page has collected more than £105,000, including a top donation of £2,500 from an anonymous donor. The boy's family said in an update that he is 'smiling again' and they are 'hopeful' the most recent operation 'will be the last for now'.
