Mum Fears Death After Botox Leaves Her Unable to Breathe

A mother of three from Cincinnati, Ohio, has shared her terrifying experience after receiving Botox injections that left her unable to breathe and fearing for her life. Jen Hauer, 41, developed symptoms including difficulty breathing and swallowing shortly after her cosmetic procedure, leading her to believe she might have botulism, a potentially fatal condition caused by excessive botulinum toxin.

The Botox Incident

Jen had only tried Botox once before when she noticed wrinkles during a Zoom call while working from home during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. After her appointment, she began experiencing severe symptoms. She Googled her condition and discovered it could be botulism, which can cause paralysis and respiratory failure.

Fearing the worst, Jen forced herself to stay awake all night, terrified that falling asleep could lead to her death. Despite her fear, she decided not to go to the hospital due to embarrassment. She later suffered from intense migraines, jaw pain, and hives after eating certain foods, which persisted for two years.

Long-Term Effects and Regret

Jen never sought medical help, worried that doctors would not believe her. She has since vowed never to use Botox again and is urging others to be aware of the risks. She described the experience as playing Russian roulette with her health.

Jen said: "I should have taken myself to the hospital, but I felt embarrassed. I didn't think anyone would believe me. I stayed up the entire night. I was so scared I would die in my sleep." She added: "I remember thinking I would never again risk my health just to try and look physically better for everybody else. It's absolutely not worth it."

A Warning to Others

Jen hopes her story will raise awareness about the potential dangers of cosmetic procedures. She emphasized that no aesthetic benefit is worth risking one's health or life. "What if I did die, or lost the ability to swallow? It could have changed the whole course of mine and my family's life, just because I didn't want wrinkles on my face. It seemed selfish to me," she concluded.
