Six-Year-Old Tommy Verbickas Loses Third Battle with Cancer
A six-year-old boy from Greater Manchester has tragically passed away after a courageous four-year struggle against cancer. Tommy Verbickas, from Sale, was diagnosed with Wilms tumour, a rare form of kidney cancer, in February 2022 when he was just two years old.
Diagnosis and Initial Treatment
Medics discovered a substantial 2.3kg mass on Tommy's left kidney, leading to his diagnosis. The brave youngster underwent intensive chemotherapy and surgery as part of his initial treatment plan. In November 2022, Tommy achieved a significant milestone by ringing the end-of-treatment bell, symbolising a hopeful conclusion to his battle.
Heartbreaking Relapses and Final Fight
Sadly, Tommy's cancer returned not once, but twice, forcing him to confront the disease for a third time. Earlier this month, his family shared updates on his deteriorating condition, noting that the cancer in his lung had progressed rapidly. They expressed profound sadness over the lack of time for cherished moments, such as a final beach trip or another gaming session on his PS5.
In a poignant statement, his family described the agony of watching their child fade, calling it "the most heartbreaking kind of helplessness". They emphasised Tommy's incredible strength and determination, highlighting how he continued to fight with every breath.

Following his passing, tributes have poured in from loved ones and the community. Tommy's family shared a heartfelt message, hoping he is "flying high, dancing through the rainbows". They remembered him as their "special boy" and expressed hope for a reunion in the future.
