A six-year-old boy from Sale, Greater Manchester, has died after battling cancer for the third time. Tommy Verbickas was first diagnosed with Wilms tumour, a form of kidney cancer, in February 2022 when doctors found a 2.3kg mass on his left kidney.
Tommy underwent chemotherapy and surgery, ringing the end-of-treatment bell in November 2022. However, he relapsed twice and faced cancer for a third time. His family announced his passing, saying: 'Our special boy Tommy we hope you're flying high, dancing through the rainbows. Until we meet again our precious boy.'
Earlier this week, his family shared their heartbreak on social media, describing how the cancer in his lung had rapidly progressed. His mother called it 'the hardest thing we've ever faced.' Tributes have flooded in, with one person saying Tommy 'fought a fight no child ever should.'
