The family of a 'beautiful' two-year-old boy have been left utterly heartbroken after he lost his courageous fight against a rare and aggressive cancer.
Albie Marriott, from Wigan, passed away peacefully in his mother's arms on Sunday, June 16, after a battle with high-risk neuroblastoma. His parents, Scott Marriott and Casey Rotheram, had launched a desperate fundraising campaign to afford pioneering treatment not available on the NHS.
A Cheeky and Happy Little Boy
Paying an emotional tribute, Albie's family described him as a "cheeky, happy, and loving little boy" whose smile could light up any room. They spoke of the immense joy he brought to their lives during his short time with them.
"He was our absolute world," the family said in a statement. "He was so brave throughout everything and never stopped smiling. We are completely broken."
A Race Against Time for Treatment
Albie's devastating journey began when he was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a cancer that affects nerve cells. His parents tirelessly campaigned to raise £250,000 for specialist immunotherapy and vaccine treatment in New York, which offered a chance to prevent the cancer from returning.
The local community rallied behind the family, organising events and donating generously. However, Albie's condition deteriorated before the fundraising goal could be met, and he became too poorly to travel.
