Baby in Hospital After Alleged Assault in Plymouth on New Year's Day

A two-month-old baby is in hospital following an incident on New Year's Day in Plymouth. Devon and Cornwall Police were called to an apartment in the Prince Rock area after residents reported hearing shouting.

Officers attended the area of Mainstone Avenue and Elliot Road shortly after midnight, where they located the baby with injuries. She was taken to Bristol Children's Hospital, where her injuries were described as not life-threatening or changing.

A police spokesperson said: "Detectives are investigating an assault which occurred in the Prince Rock area of Plymouth on 1 January. Officers were called shortly after midnight to reports of a disturbance and altercation involving a group of people."

An 18-year-old man from Plymouth was arrested on suspicion of assault and taken to Charles Cross police station. He has since been released on police bail while enquiries continue.

The spokesperson added: "Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this incident."
