A mother from Derbyshire has described the moment she gave birth to twin boys in the footwell of her partner's BMW X3 while rushing to hospital, insisting it was a remarkably straightforward experience.
Unexpected Labour
Chloe Weston, 28, was taken aback when her waters broke on November 14, 2025, at 3.30pm – seven days before her planned caesarean section. The mother of four made her way to Queen's Hospital Burton with her partner, Adrian Bradbury, 33, but when they encountered traffic, Chloe knew she would not reach the hospital in time.
Adrian, a security officer, stopped the car, and 20 minutes after her contractions began, Chloe delivered twin boys, Koah and Kyro, just a minute apart. The newborns were swaddled in pink blankets donated by a stranger before heading to hospital, where they remained for seven days.
A 'Really Easy' Birth
Now five months old and thriving, Chloe describes it as her easiest birth. Speaking from her home in Swadlincote, Derbyshire, she said: "I gave birth to one twin by the time we had pulled over, but he fell in the footwell. By the time my partner came back with the police, I had given birth to the other twin. It only took about 30 minutes to give birth from when my contractions started."
She added: "I caught them myself and held them to my chest. I was in so much shock. But it was a really easy birth, I was listening to my own body. It was a better experience compared to being in a hospital environment."
Emergency Delivery on the A38
Chloe, who is also mother to Jacob, 6, and Leo, 2, discovered she was expecting twins in March 2025. She had arranged a planned caesarean section following advice that her twins were breech and transverse. However, after returning from her appointment, Chloe's waters broke at 3.30pm just as she was about to step through her front door.
She recalled: "I wasn't expecting to go into labour that day. I was worried as one of my babies was in breech and one was transverse, I didn't know how I was supposed to give birth. I didn't believe what was happening. It was all a bit of a whirlwind. I had to run inside my house to quickly pack a hospital bag."
Chloe and Adrian leapt into their vehicle, but became trapped in congestion on the A38, Willington, while her contractions intensified. Left with no alternative but to push, Chloe delivered Koah, weighing 6lbs 4oz, as Adrian stopped the car. He stepped out to seek assistance from police officers in the vicinity – but by the time he returned, Chloe had already delivered Kyro, weighing 5lbs 2oz.
"It happened within a few minutes," Chloe said. "I started getting contractions at 4:52pm and then half an hour later at 5:30pm, I gave birth to them within a minute of each other."
Kindness of a Stranger
While the parents were waiting for an ambulance, a local resident from Burton-upon-Trent came out and donated pink blankets to keep the babies warm. Chloe said: "Adrian rang up the paramedics who came out first. He was panicking, asking if everything was OK. I told him that I had delivered both babies, and he seemed a bit relieved."
The ambulance crew arrived and took the twins and Chloe in separate ambulances. She spent a week in hospital, with Kyro in the Intensive Care Unit for two days due to low blood sugar, while Koah was healthy. "When we left the hospital, I was still in shock. I was left the day before my originally scheduled c-section date, which was very surreal," she added.
Gratitude and Reflection
Now back home and in good health, Chloe managed to track down the resident who assisted them on Facebook to express her gratitude. She still reflects on the birth to this day – yet describes it as her easiest birth despite previously dreading it.
She concluded: "I'm still quite shocked, I do think about it quite a lot. I was absolutely dreading it, but the experience was completely different with the twins, and it was pretty much the easiest. If I was to have another child, I'd happily be in the car all over again. It was the easiest birth."
