A mother has been subjected to online abuse after sharing videos of her four-month-old son, who weighs a whopping 22lb 8oz. Maci Mugele, 21, from Oklahoma, US, posted clips of baby Gunner on TikTok, where he has been branded 'chunky' by some viewers. The videos have amassed more than 20 million views.
Some social media users accused Ms Mugele of 'child abuse', with one commenting: 'This should be child abuse.' Another wrote: 'The box you're supposed to use is baby formula not mass gainer.' However, many other users defended the baby's size, calling him 'cute' and predicting he will grow tall.
Ms Mugele said she was surprised by the negative reaction. 'It made me upset to realise that there are people like that in this world that feel so comfortable saying these things about a baby,' she said. 'I don't know how it's cruel or abusive that I feed him whenever he's hungry. I feel like it would be abusive if I didn't feed him when he was hungry.'
Gunner was born on February 19 weighing 8lb 1oz and measuring 19.5 inches. He now measures two-and-a-half feet long and is in the 100th percentile for weight and the 90th percentile for height. Doctors have confirmed he is healthy, with Ms Mugele noting that he has always eaten more than the average baby.
'He always measured a week or two ahead [when I was pregnant],' she explained. 'The doctors said that he's healthy but sometimes people just have big babies. He's big for his height as well so I think that contributes to him being bigger.'
