Beloved television presenter Davina McCall has shared an emotional update with her fans, revealing she has completed a significant stage in her breast cancer treatment journey.
An Emotional Milestone Reached
In a heartfelt video posted to her Instagram on 10th January 2026, the 58-year-old star, famed for hosting Big Brother, struggled to hold back tears. She confessed that finishing her course of radiotherapy was a far more emotional experience than she had anticipated. McCall, wearing a leopard print cardigan, directly addressed her followers to mark the personal milestone.
The timing coincided with what she referred to as National Quitters Day, a concept she questioned. "It's a bit weird having a National Quitters Day," she mused, "because you kind of want to say to somebody 'oh happy National Quitters Day' but no, we shouldn't be celebrating that. There's nothing happy about that."
Instead, she advocated for a day of perseverance, suggesting: "We should have a 'happy, congratulations on still going for it when everyone else is giving up day'. That's what we should say." She acknowledged the post-Christmas slump, describing a "grey stormy day", but directed her audience towards positivity.
Looking Forward with Positivity
McCall pointed her fans towards her 'Begin Again' podcast for inspiration, especially during its 'reset month'. "If you want to start again or continue with what you're doing, there is just so much inspiration on Begin Again to help you achieve that," she encouraged.
Concluding her update, she linked her own need for uplift to her treatment completion. "I finished my radiotherapy today. And it was very, very emotional. Much more emotional than I thought it would be and I need a bit of positivity and brilliance," she said, revealing she planned to watch an episode featuring Julia Bradbury on her podcast for support.
Her message ended on a resilient note: "But don't give up, you'll get there."
A Journey of Resilience and Support
This update follows surgery in November last year to remove a lump that showed early signs of breast cancer. Although successful, she was advised to undergo preventative radiotherapy in January as an "insurance policy" against recurrence.
This health challenge came less than a year after McCall had an operation to remove a benign brain tumour. Despite these trials, she has spoken publicly about her positive outlook. Weeks after her initial breast surgery, she attended an event stating, "I'm the happiest I have ever been... It's taken me until my fifties to learn enough to make myself feel really, deeply content."
Her personal life has also been a source of joy. In December, she married long-term partner, hairdresser Michael Douglas, in an intimate ceremony with just 11 guests. McCall has explained she keeps a unique token of his – a prosthetic 'eyeball' – in her wedding ring so she feels he is with her when they are apart. Douglas has been her steadfast support throughout her health battles.
Fans flooded her latest post with messages of love and strength. One supporter wrote: "Well done on completing your radiotherapy treatment today. You’ve got this! Sending lots of love," while others praised her strength and bravery.
