In a candid post on Instagram on Wednesday 14 January 2026, the 46-year-old writer informed her followers that she is currently undergoing a course of radiotherapy. Hoover posted a selfie wearing a hospital gown, captioning it: “Second to last day of radiation! I wish I could blame my hair and facial expressions on @texas.oncology but they’ve been great. Hope you never need them but highly recommend.”
The author has not yet disclosed specific details regarding the type or stage of her cancer. This news follows a period where she was forced to miss promotional events for the film adaptation of her 2019 novel, Regretting You, last year due to what was described at the time as an “unavoidable surgery”.
