Colleen Hoover, the globally celebrated author behind the phenomenal bestseller It Ends With Us, has shared a personal health update with her millions of fans, revealing she has been diagnosed with cancer.
Social Media Announcement and Treatment Details
In a candid post on Instagram on Wednesday 14 January 2026, the 46-year-old writer informed her followers that she is currently undergoing a course of radiotherapy. Hoover posted a selfie wearing a hospital gown, captioning it: “Second to last day of radiation! I wish I could blame my hair and facial expressions on @texas.oncology but they’ve been great. Hope you never need them but highly recommend.”
The author has not yet disclosed specific details regarding the type or stage of her cancer. This news follows a period where she was forced to miss promotional events for the film adaptation of her 2019 novel, Regretting You, last year due to what was described at the time as an “unavoidable surgery”.
A Literary Phenomenon and Screen Success
Hoover's rise to literary superstardom has been remarkable, driven significantly by the passionate #BookTok community on TikTok. To date, she has sold an astonishing more than 50 million books worldwide, with her 2016 novel It Ends With Us accounting for over 10 million of those sales alone.
Her transition to Hollywood has been equally successful, albeit not without controversy. The 2024 adaptation of It Ends With Us, starring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni (who also directed), was a box office hit, grossing $351 million (£260m). However, the project was marred by off-screen legal disputes between the two leads, who filed lawsuits alleging workplace misconduct and defamation. Hoover, who served as an executive producer, later expressed disappointment over the “ugliness” of the situation.
What Comes Next for Hoover's Projects?
Despite the personal health challenge, the pipeline for adaptations of Hoover's work remains full. The film version of Regretting You, starring Alison Williams and McKenna Grace, was released in October 2025. Furthermore, fans can anticipate cinematic takes on two of her other major bestsellers, Verity and Reminders of Him, which are both slated for release later this year.
As Hoover approaches her final day of radiotherapy treatment, her global community of readers has flooded social media with messages of support, hoping for a full and speedy recovery for one of the world's most beloved authors.
