Marcus Rashford is on the verge of seeing his dream come true as Manchester United have made their stance clear regarding his future. The forward, currently on loan at Barcelona, could be granted his wish to stay at the Catalan club permanently.
Rashford's Barcelona Loan and Ambitions
Rashford joined Barcelona on a season-long loan last summer, with a £26 million option to buy included in the agreement. The 28-year-old has repeatedly expressed his desire to remain in Catalonia and win more trophies. He could take a significant step toward that goal if Barcelona defeat Real Madrid to win La Liga on Sunday.
Hansi Flick's side currently top the table with 88 points, 11 ahead of Real Madrid with four matches remaining. A victory would cap a successful debut season for the Manchester United academy product, who has always prioritised winning silverware.
Speaking at his unveiling last summer, Rashford said: "I want to win the biggest trophies and feel like Barcelona is a huge club in the football world so it is the perfect place." He added: "It's a club where people's dreams come true and they win big prizes. It feels like home."
After winning the Spanish Supercopa in January, he said: "I am very happy today. It's the first trophy and it's always the best feeling to win the first one. I hope now we can win some more."
United's Firm Stance on Permanent Deal
Rashford left United after falling out with then-head coach Ruben Amorim and being dropped for the Manchester Derby in December 2024. He then joined Aston Villa on loan before moving to Barcelona. Since arriving in Spain, he has contributed 13 goals and 14 assists in 46 appearances, though his form has dipped in the second half of the season.
Despite Barcelona's possible interest in negotiating a reduced fee or another loan, United remain adamant: they will only accept a permanent transfer. Barcelona must pay the option-to-buy fee or Rashford will return to United for pre-season. The Catalans may attempt to lower the price, but United are giving that idea short shrift.
Regardless of the summer outcome, Rashford has already partly achieved his goal of winning trophies at one of the world's biggest clubs. His future now hinges on Barcelona's willingness to meet United's demands.
