Amy Dowden 'Can't Wait' to Return to Strictly After Second Mastectomy

Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden has expressed her eagerness to return to the dance floor following a second mastectomy. The 35-year-old professional dancer underwent the surgery last week and is now recovering at home.

Dowden, who was first diagnosed with breast cancer in early 2023, had previously undergone a single mastectomy and chemotherapy. In February 2024, she was told there was 'no evidence of disease' and returned to the show later that year. However, earlier this month she announced she would be absent from upcoming episodes for a second mastectomy.

After the operation, Dowden told fans things 'went well' and that she was 'resting up'. On Wednesday, she shared a video from Strictly on her Instagram Story, writing: 'Can't wait to be back with my @bbcstrictly family.'

Her Strictly co-star Carlos Gu provided an update on her recovery during an appearance on Lorraine. He said: 'We have phone calls every day. I love her and I miss her. Surprisingly she's recovering better than I thought. She's so positive. Nothing can put her down... She's like 'I'm coming back, I got this'.'

On Monday, Dowden had her post-surgery drain removed and shared a photo on social media, saying: 'Drain is out! I feel free! Nurse very happy with how everything is looking.' She added that she plans to look at the surgical site after her dressing is changed on Friday.
