TikTok creator Sarah Bernardo has shared her chicken, lentil, bean and vegetable soup recipe, which she says contains 38g of protein and 459 calories per serving. The soup is designed to be filling and high in protein, making it suitable for those looking to lose weight, particularly individuals with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).
Recipe Details and Preparation
The recipe begins by slicing two carrots into half moons, finely dicing four celery sticks and cutting one brown onion into chunks. You'll also require a tablespoon of garlic, five cups of vegetable stock, one cup of red lentils, a tin of four bean mix and 400g of roast chicken.
Sarah sautéed the onion in avocado oil, before incorporating garlic and the vegetables, allowing them to simmer for two minutes. She then poured in five cups of vegetable stock and brought the mixture to the boil. Once bubbling away, she introduced a cup of red lentils, the beans and the cooked chicken, leaving everything to cook for 10 minutes.
Nutritional Content and Viewer Response
Overall, Sarah revealed that each portion of the soup contained 459 calories and 38g of protein. The high protein content is intended to help keep hunger at bay, which can support weight loss efforts.
In the comments section, one TikTok user highlighted: "Protein helps you feel fuller longer and can help regulate hormone levels." Viewers of the video expressed considerable interest in the recipe, with one follower querying whether chicken broth could be swapped for the vegetable alternative. Another user commented "This is great! Thanks so much for sharing."
Sarah frequently shares videos documenting her life with PCOS, a prevalent condition that affects the functioning of a woman's ovaries. Alongside irregular periods, it can trigger an overproduction of the chemical androgen, potentially causing physical symptoms such as excess facial or body hair, as well as weight gain. She said: "If you need a filling high protein meal to have while losing weight with PCOS then give this a go! I love having this for lunch on a daily basis."
