Wayne Lineker, the brother of football presenter Gary Lineker, has been hospitalised and is facing a long recovery after being diagnosed with a serious case of pneumonia. The 63-year-old nightclub owner spent ten days in intensive care and has revealed he is currently unable to walk.
A Terrifying Health Scare
The businessman took to his Instagram account on Sunday to share the frightening details of his ordeal. He explained that the issue began two weeks ago after he believed he caught a severe infection on a flight from Mauritius to Dubai. Initially thinking he had contracted COVID-19, Wayne returned to the UK to rest.
The situation escalated dramatically at 3am one morning when he woke up unable to walk and in such severe pain he believed he was having a heart attack. His daughter, Tia, was called and subsequently contacted her mother, who then summoned an ambulance to take Wayne to hospital.
Diagnosis and Hospital Stay
Upon admission, medics diagnosed him with what he described as "chronic" and "extremely dangerous" pneumonia. He was immediately placed in intensive care, where he remained for a ten-day period. He has since been moved to a respiratory ward as his condition stabilises.
Wayne expressed his gratitude for the care he has received and for the support of his family, who have been able to visit him. "It's only now that I feel confident enough in my recovery that I can let everyone know," he wrote in his social media post, explaining his delay in sharing the news publicly.
A Long Road to Recovery Ahead
While now out of immediate danger, the entrepreneur faces a significant rehabilitation journey. He confirmed that he still cannot walk and anticipates needing approximately two months of physiotherapy and rehabilitation to regain his mobility and full health.
According to the NHS, pneumonia is an inflammation of the lungs usually caused by an infection. While many people recover in two to four weeks, it can be particularly serious for older adults, which aligns with Wayne's warning about the dangers of catching such a virus at his age.
The well-known figure, owner of the O Beach venues, ended his message on a positive note, assuring his followers he is on the mend, albeit with a challenging path still ahead.
