Former Big Brother contestant and television panellist Narinder Kaur has issued a health update after being admitted to a specialist hospital with a suspected tropical infection. The 53-year-old fell seriously ill shortly after returning to the UK from a two-week family holiday to India and the Maldives.
Swift NHS care praised by TV star
Kaur was taken to the Hospital for Tropical Diseases in London after suddenly falling "really poorly". Taking to social media platform X, she expressed immense gratitude for the care she received. "I can't thank ENOUGH the amazing nurses and Dr's who took swift and amazing care of me," she wrote, describing the experience as a humbling reminder of the NHS's crucial role.
She later confirmed she had submitted a "FIRST CLASS review" of the NHS after receiving a text acknowledging her feedback. In a reply to a follower, she emphasised the kindness shown to her and pondered, "what would I have done without them?"
Holiday snaps preceded sudden illness
Just a day before her hospitalisation, Kaur had returned from her holiday, where she had been actively sharing updates with her followers. Her social media posts included photographs from iconic locations such as the Golden Temple and the Taj Mahal.
However, upon landing back in the UK, she began to experience severe symptoms including extreme chills, an intense flu-like illness, and chronic fatigue. This rapid decline prompted an urgent medical assessment.
Tests for serious infections
Doctors conducted several tests amid concerns she could have contracted a serious tropical disease such as malaria or dengue fever. A source close to the situation told The Sun, "It all happened very quickly... It’s been frightening, but she’s in expert hands." The exact cause of her illness remains unknown.
Tropical illnesses can sometimes take days or weeks to manifest after exposure, often stemming from risks like mosquito bites, untreated water, or contact in certain environments.
Narinder Kaur first found fame on the 2001 series of Big Brother and has since become a regular panellist on shows like Jeremy Vine, Good Morning Britain, and GB News, discussing current affairs and social issues.
