Thousands of parents have taken to social media to recount eerie conversations with their young children, prompted by a request from children's television channel CBeebies. The channel asked grown-ups to post the 'creepiest thing your child has said to you', and the responses flooded in.
Many parents described how their children mentioned deceased relatives they had never met or claimed to see people in the house that no one else could see. One mother, Megan Smyth, shared a particularly unsettling experience with a baby monitor. She heard crying and sobbing, with a child saying 'I want my daddy', but realised it was not her own child, who was fast asleep. 'There were no other kids living near us so I don't know what it picked up!!! Really spooked me,' she wrote.
Another user, @Beckofdoom on Twitter, recounted her then-toddler saying there was a man hanging from the washing line. When they went to look, the child said, 'It's okay, he's buried in the ground now.' She was about two and a half at the time.
Kayleigh Emerson said her two-year-old daughter's observations left her wondering about past lives. The child described being in a car accident, saying, 'Then a van came and gave me a bad headache and there was rain on my hands.' She then abruptly switched to talking about snowmen. Emerson added, 'I couldn't get her to say anything more about the van. She said a few other similarly creepy things around that age - actually had me wondering if past lives could be real.'
