A community in North Wales is in mourning after the sudden death of a devoted mother discovered by her two young sons at their family home.
A Tragic Discovery
Lorraine Probert, a 45-year-old described as 'bubbly and caring', was found collapsed on a couch by her children Huw, five, and Owain, ten. The brothers had returned from school to their home in the village of Gresford, near Wrexham, several hours after their mother had dropped them off as usual.
Believing she was asleep, the boys raised the alarm. Emergency services were forced to break a window to gain entry. Mrs Probert was rushed to hospital but, despite all efforts, could not be saved. She died the following day, on Saturday, 29th November 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
A Life of Love and Service
In heartfelt tributes, her sister, Andrea Ellis, said Lorraine was 'a light in our lives' and her 'closest friend'. 'She had a way of making everyone feel seen and valued,' Ms Ellis told LeaderLive. 'Her laughter could turn an ordinary day into something special.'
Mrs Probert was utterly devoted to her husband, Tim, 41, and their boys. 'Lorraine's greatest joy was her children,' her sister added. 'She was their biggest cheerleader, guiding them with patience, kindness, and wisdom.'
Beyond her family, she was a committed community figure. A passionate supporter of the Royal British Legion, she had taken over organising the annual Poppy Appeal in her local area following her father's death three years ago. The Royal British Legion North Wales Poppy Appeal expressed being 'deeply saddened' by her passing.
Community Rallies in Support
In the wake of the tragedy, friends and relatives have established an online fundraiser to support Tim Probert and his sons. The GoFundMe appeal, set up by family friend Sam O'Grady, aims to alleviate financial pressures during 'the darkest chapter of their lives'.
Mr O'Grady described Lorraine as 'an extraordinary wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend' with an 'unwavering willingness to help anyone in need'. He wrote: 'The trauma and devastation this family has endured is unimaginable, and their world has changed forever in a single moment.'
The fundraiser seeks to help the family cover costs and allow them space to grieve. 'Your kindness will help lift some of the financial burden so this family can grieve, heal, and stay supported,' the appeal states.
Hundreds of online tributes have poured in for the former Morrisons checkout worker, remembered as a 'lovely, wonderful and kind' woman whose spirit and love have left a permanent mark on all who knew her.
