Julian Lennon Urges Heart Checks After Health Scare Diagnosis
Julian Lennon Urges Heart Checks After Health Scare

Julian Lennon, the 63-year-old musician who inspired three Beatles songs, is urging fans to undergo heart checks after a recent health scare. The singer, best known for his hit Too Late For Goodbyes, revealed he has been diagnosed with coronary heart disease and is pre-diabetic.

A Call for Early Detection

In a message to his online followers, Lennon advised: 'I urge you all to get checked out sooner rather than later. You never know what hidden health issues you may have.' He added, 'I've managed to catch them early enough to be able to reverse some of the damage and will hopefully be able to live a healthy long life.'

Previous Cancer Scare

This is not Lennon's first brush with serious illness. In 2020, he underwent emergency surgery to remove a cancerous growth from his head. The singer had visited his dermatologist, who noticed a lump on his head that 'looked and felt a little different,' prompting a biopsy. The results confirmed malignancy, and Lennon immediately had the growth removed in Los Angeles.

Reflecting on the ordeal, he wrote on Facebook: 'She urged me to have a Biopsy 2 days ago, which I obliged... Only to learn, 24 hrs later, that it was malignant/cancerous, and that her recommendation was to get it removed immediately, which is what happened today... Hopefully we managed to remove all that was cancerous, but the mole is being sent off again, for a further/deeper analysis.'

Inspiration Behind Beatles Classics

Julian Lennon, the son of John Lennon and his first wife Cynthia, was the inspiration for three Beatles songs: Hey Jude, Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds, and Good Night. Hey Jude was written by Paul McCartney to comfort Julian during his parents' divorce in 1968. The line 'take a sad song and make it better' reflects the impact of the separation on the young Julian.

Following his mother Cynthia's death from cancer in 2015, Lennon has been vocal about the importance of regular health checks. He urged fans to get checked twice a year, stating: 'Things can turn in a Day, as it did with Me…. Take care of Yourself, and urge those you love, to go for Check-Ups too.... Life is too Short… Don't make it shorter, by being ignorant about Your Own health.'

John Lennon was tragically shot dead in 1980 outside his New York apartment. Julian's half-brother Sean, also a musician, is John's son with Yoko Ono.
