Jeremy Clarkson was rushed to hospital last Sunday after a health scare, just hours after his newspaper column lambasting the National Health Service was published. The 65-year-old former Top Gear presenter was treated at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford for an undisclosed ailment, which he described as 'Defcon1 painful'.
Writing in The Sunday Times, Clarkson said he had experienced a 'very hot neck' and was taken to the emergency department. He declined to reveal the nature of his condition, stating 'that's none of your business'. The father-of-three praised the 'spotless' hospital and kind staff, admitting he 'genuinely couldn't find anything to moan about'.
However, Clarkson insisted his positive experience had not changed his opinion of the NHS, which he had earlier branded a 'creaking old monster' in his column. He argued that the nation could not afford the health service, despite being impressed by his care.
The incident comes a year after Clarkson underwent heart surgery to clear blocked arteries, having been just days from death. He recently revealed he had lost around a stone and a half using the Mounjaro weight-loss jab. Clarkson also said he had given up private health insurance due to insurers' reluctance to pay out.
