Gemma Oaten: mum broke back in hospital

Emmerdale star Gemma Oaten has revealed her mother was rushed to hospital last week after breaking her back. The actress shared the emotional update on Monday (August 24) on behalf of her family, explaining why her mother, Marg Oaten, would not be posting her usual Monday morning message on the SEED charity's social media page.

Family steps back from SEED

Gemma explained that she, her mother, and her father are stepping back from SEED, an eating disorder support service, as of Friday (August 28). She said her mother had been hiding her deteriorating health and had been in "absolute agony" with her back going into spasms.

"Long story short, she's in the hospital, she went in on Wednesday night (August 19), and we found out that she's actually broken her back," Gemma said. "She's now going to be awaiting surgery and possibly moving to Leeds."
