One person has been hospitalised following a chemical spill at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. The incident occurred on Monday morning when sodium hypochlorite, a disinfectant, was spilled near the hospital's basement.
Firefighters in chemical suits responded to the scene at around 10:30. As a precaution, two wards were cleared and 12 people attended the accident and emergency department. Eleven of those have since been discharged, while one remains admitted.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service remains on site to manage the incident. Hospital director Lyn McDonald praised staff for minimising the impact on patients through effective teamwork.
