Eamonn Holmes' son, Declan, has issued an update on the health of the GB News presenter after he suffered a stroke last week. Declan said his father is "doing OK given the circumstances" and described the medical issue as "a real shock" for the family.
In a statement, Declan thanked well-wishers for their messages of support, saying: "It means a lot to us as a family." He added: "For now, we're focused on him and keeping things steady around him." The family has requested privacy as they navigate the recovery process.
GB News announced on Saturday that Holmes, 66, had been taken ill and later diagnosed with a stroke. A spokesperson said he is "responding well to treatment" and that Alex Armstrong will present in his absence this week. Chief executive Angelos Frangopoulos described Holmes as "a loved member of the GB News family."
Holmes, from Northern Ireland, is Britain's longest-serving breakfast news presenter with a career spanning over 40 years. He previously anchored GMTV, Sky News Sunrise, and co-presented ITV's This Morning before joining GB News in 2022. He has long battled health issues, including back problems and mobility difficulties.
