TV presenter Eamonn Holmes, 66, is recovering in hospital after suffering a stroke last week. GB News, where he co-hosts the breakfast show, confirmed the news in a statement, saying he is responding well to treatment and has asked for privacy as he focuses on getting better.
Holmes had been due to return to GB News Breakfast next week alongside Ellie Costello, but Alex Armstrong will now replace him during his recovery. GB News CEO Angelos Frangopoulos said: 'Eamonn is a loved member of the GB News family, and we’re with him every step of the way as he recovers.'
Fans have sent well-wishes, with one commenting: 'Wishing you a good and speedy recovery Eamonn and thank for all the good you have done over the years, it is much appreciated.' Another wrote: 'I hope you get well soon Eamonn, and we will see you back on GB News with Ellie.'
Holmes has faced several health issues in recent years, including using a wheelchair for mobility. He has been off air since a recent incident where he appeared to fall asleep on air, which he attributed to checking faulty equipment. A source told The Sun: 'There have been lots of whispers about Eamonn being off. It’s unlike him. He lives and breathes presenting on television.'
Holmes, who split from Ruth Langsford in 2024 after 14 years of marriage, has also spoken candidly about the challenges of using a wheelchair and criticised accessibility in hotels and cinemas. He has also expressed concerns about TV industry standards, predicting ITV may be sold to an American streaming company.
