Coronation Street legend Beverley Callard has tearfully admitted she is 'in denial' amid her ongoing battle with breast cancer. The 69-year-old actress, best known for playing Liz McDonald on the ITV soap, revealed her diagnosis earlier this year and underwent surgery shortly after.
Callard, who has relocated to Ireland to star in the soap opera Fair City, shared an emotional video on Instagram on Tuesday evening. She explained that registering with a new GP forced her to confront her situation, which she had been pushing to the back of her mind.
'Today has been a weird day,' she said. 'I had to go through everything that has happened. It made me realise that I'm in denial a lot of the time.' The actress, who turned 69 last weekend, admitted she sometimes wonders if the doctors might have been wrong about her diagnosis.
Callard is still awaiting results to determine if the surgery successfully removed all the cancer. She previously told fans that if she is cancer-free, she will begin radiotherapy in a few weeks. If not, she will face further decisions.
Despite the uncertainty, Callard remains hopeful. 'I have a feeling I will be [cancer-free],' she said. 'I don't know why I have that feeling, but I just have.'
