Chad Gilbert, guitarist for punk rock band New Found Glory, has shared a health update after undergoing brain surgery to remove three tumours. The 45-year-old musician revealed in an Instagram post on Monday that he was hospitalised last month after suddenly losing control of his arms and legs.
Gilbert wrote that on 20 February he played a show in Nashville and struggled to control the movements of his left hand. His left leg grew weaker by the day, and he began stumbling and falling. On 23 February he was taken to the emergency room, where a CT scan showed three new tumours had appeared in his brain.
The guitarist and vocalist said he has been recovering in hospital since his successful brain surgery on 27 February. He regained function of his left hand immediately. His radiation oncologist told him: 'This is not a fatal blow and not the end of your story, just the beginning of a new chapter.' Gilbert noted that his recovery has been bumpy at times but he is feeling much better and getting stronger by the day.
He thanked those who have supported his family, including his wife Lisa Cimorelli and their four-year-old daughter, during his recovery. He said he cannot use his phone much yet and has many messages to catch up on. Gilbert concluded by promising more stories to come when his brain is working well again, and said he looks forward to sharing more music and fun.
Gilbert, who has been the lead guitarist in New Found Glory since the band formed in 1997, revealed in 2021 that he had been diagnosed with a rare form of adrenal gland cancer. His metastatic pheochromocytoma spread to his spine and lungs, leading to intense chemotherapy. He announced in August 2025 that he had resumed radiation treatments after doctors found a cancerous spot in his back.
