New Found Glory's Chad Gilbert Undergoes Brain Surgery Amid Cancer Battle
Chad Gilbert Has Brain Surgery While Fighting Adrenal Cancer

Chad Gilbert, the 45-year-old guitarist for the rock band New Found Glory, has undergone a critical surgical procedure to remove three brain tumours, as he bravely confronts a prolonged battle with adrenal cancer. In a heartfelt social media post, Gilbert detailed his recent health struggles, revealing that during a performance in Nashville on February 20, he experienced significant difficulty controlling the movements of his left hand.

Emergency Hospitalisation and Diagnosis

Following the concert, Gilbert's condition deteriorated rapidly, with his left leg weakening daily and episodes of stumbling and falling. On February 23, he was urgently taken to the emergency room, where a CT scan uncovered the presence of three new tumours in his brain. This alarming discovery prompted immediate medical intervention.

Successful Surgery and Recovery

On February 27, Gilbert underwent a successful brain surgery, and he has since been recuperating in hospital. Remarkably, he regained function in his left hand almost immediately after the operation. In his statement, he shared encouraging words from his radiation oncologist, who described the situation as "not a fatal blow and not the end of your story, just the beginning of a new chapter."

Gilbert expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support from family and friends, noting that his recovery has had its challenges but he is feeling stronger each day. He acknowledged the many messages he has received, stating he looks forward to reconnecting when his health permits.

History of Cancer Diagnosis

Gilbert's cancer journey began in 2021 when his wife, Lisa Cimorelli, found him unconscious in bed. After being rushed to hospital, doctors diagnosed him with a large adrenal gland tumour that had metastasised to his liver. He underwent extensive surgery to remove the tumour, along with half of his liver and his gallbladder, and was declared cancer-free the following month.

However, in August 2022, the rare cancer recurred in his spine, necessitating a gruelling six-hour operation. The following year, nodules were detected in his lungs, leading to a course of chemotherapy. This latest development with brain tumours marks another chapter in his ongoing fight.

Fan Support and Personal Life

Fans have flooded social media with messages of encouragement, with one writing, "We love you Chad! Keep fighting. The world is a brighter place with your riffs and positivity." Others have offered prayers and positive energy, highlighting Gilbert's resilience and inspirational spirit.

Gilbert was previously married to Paramore singer Hayley Williams; they began dating in 2008, married in 2016, but separated the following year, finalising their divorce several months later. Williams has spoken openly about battling depression post-divorce, including seeking inpatient treatment for panic attacks and recurring nightmares.

As Gilbert continues his recovery, he remains optimistic about sharing more music and fun with his supporters in the future.
