Cassandra Thorburn Opens Up About Loneliness During Chemotherapy

Cassandra Thorburn, the ex-wife of television presenter Karl Stefanovic, has shared a poignant update on her battle with a rare and aggressive form of breast cancer, diagnosed in February. The 55-year-old took to Instagram on Thursday to document her journey, posting a selfie showing her hair loss from chemotherapy.

In her post, Thorburn wrote: 'A one foot in front of the other kind of day walking to chemo treatment today. Sending everyone on the chemo journey, especially those of you on your own, a virtual hug.' She added: 'I am with you in the dark of the night when the house is quiet and your thoughts are loud.'

When a follower expressed concern about her being alone, Thorburn replied that she has support from her children and mother, but does not want to burden her children with her fears. 'You cannot burden your children with many of your fears, for they are the very reason you have them,' she explained. She described cancer as a 'solo journey', noting that the inner demons often emerge at night.

Thorburn shares three children with Stefanovic: Jackson, 25, Ava, 19, and River, 18. She was married to the Today host for 21 years before their split in 2016. In February, she announced her diagnosis in a video, stating she was not interested in hiding her condition and that she is not walking a path less travelled.
