Boots has launched a pilot scheme offering weight-loss jabs in 17 stores across Britain, allowing customers to collect prescriptions in person. The service, which started this week, includes drugs such as Wegovy and Mounjaro, which are prescribed following a face-to-face consultation in a private room.
Until now, almost all weight-loss prescriptions by Boots were issued after an online consultation. The new in-store service aims to make it more convenient for customers, as they can “pop into a store on their lunch break or after work,” said Jamie Kerruish, chief healthcare officer at Boots.
The move follows safety concerns about people lying about their weight or submitting fake photos to obtain injections from some online pharmacies. Around 1.6 million adults in the UK use weight-loss drugs, which work by mimicking the hormone that regulates blood sugar, appetite and digestion.
Boots has been selling Wegovy for three years and also offers Mounjaro. Prices start at £99.97 for the lowest dose of Wegovy and £176.97 for Mounjaro. The in-store service provides the same treatment and pricing as the Boots Online Doctor service.
Mr Kerruish emphasised that the service is for anyone affected by obesity, offering not just jabs but also support for lifestyle and behavioural changes. The 17 stores are located across Britain, though the full list has not been disclosed.
