Beverley Callard, the 69-year-old Coronation Street star, has revealed she is suffering a “complete confidence crisis” following her breast cancer diagnosis. The actress, who announced her condition in February, recently shared a candid Instagram video in which she admitted feeling like “half a woman”.
In the video, Callard explained that the crisis was triggered after watching a romantic and sexual scene on television with her husband, Jon McEwan. She said she felt unable to engage in such activities anymore, which led to a dip in her confidence. “I just thought, I can't do all that anymore. I'm half a woman,” she said.
Callard, who married McEwan in 2010, described how she eventually confided in him about her feelings. He reassured her that he did not see her that way at all. Fans have since praised her honesty, calling her an “inspiration” and urging her to be kinder to herself.
The actress first experienced symptoms while participating in I’m A Celebrity… South Africa last September, eventually withdrawing on medical advice. Her cancer was removed but had spread to a lymph node. She has now announced she will soon begin radiotherapy treatment.
