A 13-year-old British boy has been stabbed to death at his home in Portugal, allegedly by his mother's ex-partner. The suspect also died in the incident, which police are treating as domestic violence.
The victim has been identified locally as Alfie Hallett. He was found with multiple stab wounds at a property in the village of Casais, near Tomar, about 90 miles north-east of Lisbon. Police said the alleged perpetrator died at the scene, having stabbed himself and caused a gas explosion.
The boy's mother was found restrained and assaulted, and was taken to hospital. Authorities said the suspect had a previous conviction for aggravated homicide and the family had been flagged following domestic violence cases in 2022 and 2023.
Tributes have been paid by Alfie's basketball team, Sport Club Operario Cem Soldos, who described him as a talented player. The Foreign Office confirmed it is in contact with local authorities and ready to provide consular support.
