Andrea McLean has revealed she was just 24 hours from death after being rushed to hospital with severe pneumonia and sepsis in December. The former Loose Women presenter, 55, collapsed at home and was found by her husband Nick Feeney after lying on the bathroom floor for an hour.
Speaking to The Mirror, McLean said doctors told her husband that if she had not reached hospital when she did, she might not have survived. 'I didn't realise how severe my illness was at the time,' she said. 'What happened over the next few weeks changed my life for ever.'
After being blue-lighted to hospital, scans revealed she had severe pneumonia, acute kidney injury and sepsis. She spent four days in hospital and required daily antibiotic drips for the following week. McLean, who has had Covid three times and long Covid, said catching flu from her daughter caused her body to 'give up'.
Even in February, she was still not fully recovered, experiencing 'funny turns' during walks and struggling with everyday tasks. She praised her husband for his support, noting his life 'stopped' as he drove her to hospital daily and cared for her.
McLean now says the ordeal has given her a new perspective on life, urging her to focus on what truly matters. She quit Loose Women in 2020 and has since been open about her health struggles.
