Alison Hammond has shared a health update from hospital after she abruptly left Friday's (October 2) live broadcast of ITV's This Morning. The presenter reassured followers in an Instagram Story that she is "fine" but is having her heart checked out.
During the live show, Alison was seen holding her chest and hurrying off camera. When the programme resumed after a break, co-host Dermot O'Leary explained her departure, saying: "Welcome back to This Morning, Alison is feeling a little unwell, so she's just had to duck out. Hopefully she'll be back." He later told audiences she would not be rejoining the show, adding: "Ali's feeling a little unwell so I'll be here for the rest of the show."
Alison's hospital update
Hours after leaving the ITV studios, Alison posted an update from a hospital bed. In an Instagram Story, she said: "Hello my lovelies, I know you're all worried about me. Honestly, I am fine first of all, but I'm getting my old ticker checked out."
She continued: "I had a little bit of a palpatation, and now I'm getting it all checked out. But I think I'm okay, I'm hoping it was just a little panic attack or something like that. I love you all, thank you for all your lovely messages. I'm so, so sorry I left you. I would never normally do that. I would never leave a TV show, so you know I wasn't very well."
She added: "Hopefully, I'm going to be alright. The doctors are so lovely and they're checking me out, and hopefully everything's going to be fine." Alison then blew a kiss towards the camera, declaring "I love you", and finished by saying: "Everything is fine, look! I'm rocking it! Look how good I look, I've still got my make-up on from This Morning. Lush! Love you, babs."
Support from fans
The presenter has received an outpouring of support on social media following her departure from the show. One Instagram user commented: "Hope you are ok. Friday's are the best day with you and D on. Get better soon." Another posted: "I hope you're okay ! ! ! [heart emoji]." A third wrote: "We love you Queen, hope you're ok." Someone else expressed similar concern, writing: "My heart was completely racing watching this morning when you fell ill. Truly hope you're ok." A fifth supporter shared: "Great job finishing the show on your own Dermot. Get well soon Ali [heart emoji]."
Earlier on Friday's This Morning, Alison congratulated her colleague Nicola Thorp on her pregnancy announcement. "It's been a pleasure, you know what's been the weirdest thing? Discovering your news," Alison said during the programme, before Nicola revealed: "Oh yeah, I'm pregnant!" This Morning airs weekdays on ITV at 10am.
