Tartan Army superhero Craig Ferguson breaks down in tears after finding out he had raised £1 million for mental health charity SAMH. Tartan Army superfan Craig Ferguson represents the very best of Scotland.
If you do just one thing today, watch the moment he wept as he learned he has raised £1 million for mental health charities as he trekked 3,000 miles across the USA to Boston. He broke down in tears as he neared the finish line and spoke movingly to his mum about what it means to be a part of this great country of ours.
It made our hearts swell with pride. Craig himself shows so many of the characteristics that epitomise Scotland. He has overcome great adversity, he has gone the extra mile to help others, he is a fighter. These are the same qualities that have fired Steve Clarke’s boys to our first World Cup in 28 years.
And let’s be clear on one thing. We’re not just in the US for a party or to make up the numbers. Scotland are a world-class team that is feared and respected in equal measure by our opponents. We are back where we belong on the world stage.
Steve Clarke’s warriors have roared back with fire and skill. Qualifying was like a fairytale. That unforgettable night at Hampden when we battered Denmark 4-2, with strikes from Scott McTominay, Lawrence Shankland, Kieran Tierney and Kenny McLean, is right up there with the best Scotland games ever. Now the roar that shook Scotland that night will echo all the way to Boston and Miami.
We topped the group like true champions. No more “nearly men.” Scotland are the real deal now. Look at the squad. We’ve got top quality players all over the park. Andy Robertson charging down that left flank like a man possessed. John McGinn pulling strings in midfield. And that magical vision Scott McTominay capable of pulling off the sublime when required.
Beating Haiti would be a massive step towards reaching the group stages for the first time in our history. That promised land is now so close we can almost touch it. One thing’s for certain – no one fancies facing Scotland when the bagpipes are blaring and 10,000 Tartan Army warriors are belting out Flower of Scotland.
And with fans like ours, anything is possible. They say No Scotland No Party. But the Tartan Army have so much more to do than just drink the local bars dry. Every fan will have to be there with the players – lifting their spirits during the bad times, roaring them on when legs are tired in the US summer heat.
No hooligan nonsense. No nasty chants. Just brilliant, passionate, fun-loving Scots living their best lives and exporting the best version of our country to the world. So whether you are watching the Haiti game in your jammies in the living room this weekend, in your local pub or in the Boston Stadium itself, let’s get right behind the lads on Sunday morning.
