BBC star Nick Knowles and his wife Katie have shared an emotional update from hospital following her major surgery. The DIY SOS presenter recently announced he would take a break from television to care for Katie, who underwent a five-and-a-half-hour operation to treat endometriosis and adenomyosis.
Katie's Health Ordeal
The 35-year-old lingerie entrepreneur was rushed to hospital when her cervix ruptured after a hysterectomy, just weeks after their wedding in June last year. Now, after another major surgery, she has spoken out about her long battle with these conditions.
In a joint Instagram post, Katie said: "I've made some videos from hospital and after my op, and I think I'm ready to share them. The ovaries. The endo. The adhesions. The organs that had stuck together. The prolapses. The bits of my body that have caused me pain for nearly two decades. All gone!"
She added: "My body feels completely battered. My stomach is swollen and sore. I have more scars. More bleeding. More stitches. More pain to breathe through."
Emotional Toll
Katie described the mental exhaustion: "Years of being told it was 'just IBS', just bad periods, just hormones, just stress. But it wasn't. Endometriosis and adenomyosis have taken so much from me. They've taken years. They've taken energy. They've taken confidence."
She praised her surgeon, Mr Raafat: "He is the first surgeon who has ever made me feel truly heard and understood. He understood how draining, exhausting and painful this has all been."
Nick's Support
Nick Knowles, who married Katie at Braxted Park, Essex, last year, said he will "disappear" from TV to care for her. Speaking to the Daily Mail, he said: "I will disappear for a while because I'll be looking after her. I'm always worried about her, but she's a warrior and a fighter."
Fans have sent messages of support, with one writing: "So sorry you've had to go through all of this. Sending massive hugs and love."
