Man claims grandfather helped him return after 60-minute death

A Spanish man has spoken about what he believes was a near-death experience (NDE), describing how his late grandfather helped him return to life after his heart stopped for an hour.

Eduardo (@fenix_eduardomj), from Spain, said in a social media video: "In February last year, 2025, when I was 34, my heart stopped for an hour."

He sought urgent medical help, but his health took a turn for the worse. He was placed on a trolley as medics moved to treat him. His heart then stopped three times, prompting attempts to bring him back.

Waking in the ICU

"I woke up the next day in the ICU, and that's when I began to remember what I'd seen in the afterlife," Eduardo said.

Eduardo later opened up about what he says happened while he was being revived, where "they told me I couldn't stay there, that I had to go back because I hadn't completed my mission."

He insists it was real, not a dream, and describes a moment of floating above an ambulance while his body lay unconscious. He recalled: "I was unconscious inside the ambulance. Whilst being transferred from one hospital to another, my heart stopped, and that's when your soul, spirit or consciousness leaves your body, and you can see yourself."

Encounter with his grandfather

Only afterwards did Eduardo discover he'd been transported to an entirely different hospital without knowing it. He says that revelation cemented his belief that he'd experienced "something beyond life".

In the strange encounter he describes, he was accompanied by his grandfather, dead for two decades, while figures around them discussed whether he should go back to the living. Eduardo says he couldn't manage it because his "whole body ached", until his grandfather assisted him. "It was a very brief experience, but it felt very real. I was at peace; I didn't miss life", he elaborated.

Mission to help others

On regaining consciousness, Eduardo's first questions included whether police had brought him to hospital — a detail he shouldn't have been aware of.

He is convinced he "had to come back" because he "hadn't been doing what I really wanted to do for five years". According to Eduardo, this was to emulate Spanish nature presenter Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente.

Eduardo has subsequently launched the "Phoenix Project" in pursuit of his objectives, educating individuals on achieving happiness so they can more effectively protect animals and the environment. He said: "My mission is to build the @fenix_society_ project, an initiative to drive us all to fight for our dreams and live in alignment with who we truly are, so that we may live in harmony with everything around us."
