BBC star and comedian Luisa Omielan has issued a major health update after being rushed to hospital on three separate occasions. The 43-year-old stand-up comic accidentally rode a Lime bike into a brick wall last month, breaking her nose. She has now revealed that the subsequent hospital visits resulted in diagnoses of a minor brain injury, Post-Concussion Syndrome, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Fans Rally in Support
Just a day after confessing that the hospital trips had “knocked her sideways,” Omielan took to Instagram to share her gratitude with fans. Alongside a photo of herself pushing her dog Bernie in a buggy, she wrote: “I have had over 30 new Patreon sign-ups in 24 hours. Thank you so much. You have no idea what this means. As a self-employed artist, we often work for weeks or months towards a goal, which then has the pay day. I was working towards the June dates, but wasn't able to take out the reward. Doing the show and getting paid to put it back into the next one and pay rent, buy food, etc.”
Financial Struggles and Generous Donations
Omielan explained that the cancellations of her shows due to her health had left her without income. However, she received two generous donations that allowed her to purchase an air conditioning unit and a buggy for her dog. “An audience member even went to collect it,” she noted. “Thanks to these sign-ups, I was able to cover some of my show cancellation costs today. And have had an emergency neuro appointment for me and B. I cannot thank people enough.”
Looking Ahead
The comedian expressed her desire to create something for her supporters once she recovers. “I want to, when I can, find a way to create something that you love. In the meantime, I am coasting on your trust in me from previous shows you have seen. I am so grateful.” She also shared screenshots of supportive comments from fans on her Patreon.
Recovery and Cancellations
In a previous post, Omielan had explained that she was forced to stop working to focus on recovery and encouraged her 122,000 Instagram followers to sign up to her Patreon, calling it her “only income” until she can plan and deliver shows again. She apologized to audiences and venues for cancellations, saying she was “gutted” and wanted to return as soon as possible.
