Leigh-Anne Pinnock has revealed she wants to move to New York for the sake of her mental health, but her husband Andre Gray is not on board with the plan. The 34-year-old former Little Mix star made the comments during an appearance on the Relationsh*t podcast with host Kamie Crawford.
Why Leigh-Anne wants to relocate
During the podcast, Leigh-Anne explained that she feels there is a strong fan base for her in the United States that she wants to continue nurturing. However, she admitted that balancing this with raising her children in the UK is challenging. She said: "In the UK, there's a lot of Black female artists that aren't getting the support they deserve, and people are coming to America for that reason. Having experienced everything I've experienced, I'm now like, 'I'm going where I'm loved.' That helps my mental health."
She added: "I definitely feel like there's a market here for me and a fan base that I can keep nurturing. But I have to be here. And I'll be honest, it is really hard with kids. My girls go to school in the UK. Like, if I come here, I can only really do two weeks at a time."
Husband's opposition and fan reaction
Leigh-Anne, who shares four-year-old twin daughters with Gray, also revealed that her husband does not share her desire to move. "I want to move to New York, but my husband doesn't want to. I mean, I get it! It's frustrating," she said. The singer, who is a confirmed contestant on the second series of The Celebrity Traitors, also announced earlier this week that she is pregnant with the couple's third child.
After a clip of her comments was shared on social media, many fans urged Leigh-Anne to follow her dreams. One fan wrote: "Baby you are too beautiful and talented to let a man hold you back." Another said: "Girl please New York would be so perfect for her tell that man to kick rocks." A third posted: "I love her so much, it's YOUR time Leigh like he been traveling." One more added: "Girl I understand compromises in relationship but this is ridiculous she is the successful one not him."
Pregnancy announcement and privacy
Leigh-Anne announced her new pregnancy on Instagram with the caption: "As one chapter ends, another begins." She shared a video of herself in a recording studio with a shirt tied above her tummy, checking her phone, followed by a close-up shot with her hand on her baby bump. The couple gave birth to twin daughters in August 2021, and they have chosen to keep their names and faces out of the public eye to protect their privacy. Earlier this year, Leigh-Anne explained: "I remember when they were born, I was going through this online hate thing and really seeing the toxicity of social media. I mean, I probably would've still decided to not show their faces anyway, but that just kind of confirmed it for me. I want them to be able to make that decision." She added: "I want them to be able to [choose] if they want to be famous or not, because once they're out there, they're out there and I think that's such a big thing."
