Joe Swash has shared an update with fans after revealing he is returning to the doctor to manage his ADHD, having stopped taking medication for a year. The 44-year-old said he could feel the condition taking 'more of a grip' on his life, particularly after a family holiday where he left his wife Stacey Solomon's suitcase at home, left his iPad on a plane, and missed a flight home.
In a candid Instagram post on April 28, Swash said: 'Now, in hindsight, I know is a bad idea so I'm sort of gonna start the journey again from scratch.' He expressed determination to manage his condition 'properly' this time and find the right balance of medication, promising to keep followers updated.
On May 7, Swash shared a more somber update, telling followers: 'In between filming today I had an appointment with my doctor to discuss the next steps. I'll keep you updated!'
ADHD affects brain function, particularly memory, concentration, and the ability to be still. Symptoms in adults are grouped into inattentive and hyperactive categories. Inattentive symptoms include forgetfulness, being easily distracted, and losing items. Hyperactive symptoms involve impulsivity, restlessness, and interrupting conversations.
According to the NHS, most people experience both types of symptoms, though women are more likely to have inattentive symptoms. Management options include lifestyle changes, workplace adjustments, talking therapies, and medication such as methylphenidate or lisdexamfetamine.
