Jamie McPhee, the widow of actor James Ransone, has spoken publicly for the first time following his sudden death at the age of 46. Ransone, best known for his role as Ziggy Sobotka in The Wire, died by suicide on Friday at a property in Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.
In a tribute shared on Instagram on Sunday, McPhee posted a photograph of the couple and wrote: 'I told you I have loved you 1000 times before and I know I will love you again. You told me - I need to be more like you and you need to be more like me - and you were so right. Thank you for giving me the greatest gifts - you, Jack and Violet. We are forever.'
The post drew an outpouring of support from friends and fans, including actress Natasha Lyonne, who wrote: 'Love you with everything I got and holding our beloved brilliant peejo with grace gratitude and cosmic peace into this life and the next.' Julia Fox added: 'Giving you the biggest virtual hug... We got your back with whatever you need.'
A fundraiser has been launched to support McPhee and the couple's two children, raising nearly $43,000 (£32,000) towards a $120,000 (£90,000) target. Police have confirmed no foul play is suspected in the death.
Ransone, whose place of death was recorded as a shed, had previously spoken candidly about being a survivor of sexual abuse and his struggles with addiction. In past interviews, he reflected on his difficult childhood and the solace he found in arts school, saying: 'I think it saved me as a kid.'
