Scotland superfan Craig Ferguson has arrived in Boston after completing his epic 3,000-mile Tartan Trek across America, raising over £1 million for men's mental health. The inspirational campaigner reached Boston Common at around 2pm local time on Friday, where supporters gathered to welcome him after more than 100 gruelling days crossing the United States on foot for Scottish Action for Mental Health (SAMH).
Emotional Arrival in Boston
Just days after breaking down in tears upon discovering donations had pushed his fundraiser beyond his £1 million goal, Craig soaked up another emotional moment as he entered the city hosting Scotland's first two World Cup fixtures. Hundreds of Scotland fans arrived to welcome Craig, singing the national anthem as bagpipes played. An emotional Craig, mobbed by the world's media, said: “I will never ever be able to find the words to describe this. No one will ever know how f***ing hard that was. Every part of that - the walking, I said I would do it. I said I’d raise £1million, we hit it for men’s mental health. And every single one of you that have supported it from the start and believed that I could do it. We’re f***ing here, we done it!”
Journey Across America
The fundraising hero set off on his challenge in February, departing Santa Monica, California, before walking and running the equivalent of more than 120 marathons across the country. Battling extreme weather, punishing terrain and sheer physical exhaustion, Craig crossed California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Maryland, Pennsylvania and New York on his remarkable journey to Boston.
Reaching the £1 Million Goal
Earlier this week, Craig's emotional reaction to reaching the £1 million target was shared online. In the touching video, Craig was enjoying a glass of wine with his mum before checking his phone to see how close he was to the landmark figure. Moments later, the stunned Scots campaigner put his head in his hands and burst into tears after seeing his fundraising campaign had officially hit the seven-figure sum. The achievement was made possible in part by a £400,000 donation from the Scottish Government, announced this week by First Minister John Swinney.
Support from Famous Faces
Craig has enjoyed support from a host of famous faces throughout the challenge, including Kenny Dalglish, Jamie Murray and Lewis Capaldi. Actor John Barrowman and comedian Craig Ferguson even travelled out to meet him just weeks into his epic trek. Throughout the journey, Craig has been assisted by close friend Matthew Allan, who has followed the route in a support vehicle, providing food, water, rest and encouragement during some of the toughest moments imaginable. Embracing his friend, Craig added: “Everyone has been watching it, the challenge, every last step of it this man has been by my side. And now, other than one last thank you, all that’s left to do is to celebrate in the most Scottish way possible… let’s get p**hed!”
Fundraising Total Continues to Climb
As of Friday, June 12, Craig's fundraising total stood at an astonishing £1,059,289 – a figure that continues to climb as the world rallies behind his cause. Craig will officially complete the Tartan Trek tomorrow, Saturday, June 13, when he arrives at Gillette Stadium ahead of Scotland's opening match of the 2026 World Cup against Haiti.
