Coronation Street Star Beverley Callard Provides Health Update from Hospital
Coronation Street legend Beverley Callard has shared a detailed health update directly from hospital, just days after publicly revealing her breast cancer diagnosis. The 68-year-old actress, best known for playing the fiery Liz McDonald on the long-running ITV soap, confirmed she is undergoing medical examinations ahead of scheduled treatment.
Positive Outlook Amid Medical Tests
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Callard expressed gratitude to her supporters while explaining her current situation. "Thank you, thank you for all your messages, you are truly amazing," she wrote. "I just thought I'd tell you what's happening now, in case I can help others and keep you updated."
The actress revealed she was at the hospital for lymph node and lymph gland testing, maintaining an optimistic perspective throughout the process. "I'm feeling fine, I'm really positive, and I'll keep you updated," she assured followers.
Diagnosis and Treatment Timeline
Callard first disclosed her diagnosis during an appearance on Ireland's RTE Late Late Show last week, explaining that her consultant contacted her just minutes before she was due to appear on Fair City. "I was diagnosed with breast cancer," she revealed during the television interview.
The actress emphasized that the cancer was detected at an early stage, and she immediately returned to England to begin treatment. "It's very early stages, and I'm along with thousands of other women as well," she told host Patrick Kielty.
Her treatment plan includes:
- Lymph node and gland testing
- Scheduled surgery within days of test results
- Radiotherapy treatment following the operation
Support System and Solidarity
In a follow-up video from her home, Callard shared that her hospital tests appeared to go well. "All seemed to go well," she reported while sitting with her dog Arthur. "I should know by Wednesday of next week. I have another appointment then, and two days later, I have the operation."
The actress highlighted the solidarity she found among other patients during her hospital visit. "There were dozens of ladies in there, just the same as me, and they were all positive as well," she observed. "And upbeat, so we're getting there and sticking together."
Public Disclosure Decision
Callard explained her decision to speak openly about her diagnosis rather than having fans discover it through media reports. In an interview with The Mail on Sunday, she stated: "I'm glad I've said it out publicly so it's just out there for other thousands of women who are also going through it."
Despite acknowledging some apprehension about returning to hospital, the actress maintained her characteristic resilience. "I'm feeling really strong, a little bit scared because it seems a bit more real since I'm going back to hospital next week," she admitted. "But I'm really full of optimism."
Looking Forward to Return
The actress expressed eagerness to return to her work on Fair City following her treatment. "I cannot wait to come back to Fair City to all the actors and the crew because they've just been amazing," she shared. "I love the treadmill of being in studio, and doing one scene after another. The writing has been amazing and I just can't wait for more."
Callard's positive attitude and willingness to share her journey publicly have resonated with fans and fellow cancer patients alike, providing both transparency about her experience and encouragement for others facing similar health challenges.
