Hannah Lowther, an actor and stage performer with over one million TikTok followers, has shared a video of herself crying on a packed commuter train after receiving a job rejection email. The footage, which has garnered more than 650,000 views, shows Lowther with red, glassy eyes trying to maintain her composure while holding an old Pret tissue.
In the video, she captioned the moment as a “severely humbling experience”. In the comments, she added: “SO aware that it’s never that deep - rejection is redirection”. The emotional response has sparked a wave of supportive messages from fellow users, many of whom emphasised the importance of allowing oneself to feel emotions freely.
Commenters shared their own experiences, with one saying: “This was me on Wednesday. MUST KEEP TELLING MYSELF IS REDIRECTION”. Another wrote: “Rejection is protection, trust me it’ll hurt now but you’ll be thankful why in months/years to come”. Actor Layton Williams also chimed in: “Dw babes I got one last week toooooo! Their loss. We move”.
The incident has ignited a broader conversation about rejection, particularly in the arts. One user noted: “Can we please normalise this reaction ... Let me be sad for a bit!” Another added: “It’s absolutely ok to have a little cry after rejection especially if it was for a job (or in your case a show) that you really wanted.”
