Tributes have been paid to champion horse rider Abigail Garside, 30, who died suddenly while celebrating her first wedding anniversary at a luxury spa in Harrogate. She was found dead on August 18 in gardens near Rudding Park resort.
Her husband Samuel Garside announced the news on Facebook, writing: 'My absolute world, my best friend and my beautiful darling wife. I will love you forever and you will never leave my heart xxx.' The couple had been enjoying a spa break and were pictured together in a hot tub just hours before her death.
Police said there were no suspicious circumstances and Abigail, from Blackburn, Lancashire, had no pre-existing medical conditions. She was well known in equestrian circles, having won the McNeil Family British Ridden Heavy Horse of the Year Championship in 2019 with her Shire mare Melindwr Lady Olwen.
Ribble Valley Riding Club paid tribute, saying: 'Abigail was a great supporter and highly valued member for over 20 years. Abigail will be sadly missed by everyone in the horse world.' Her funeral is set for September 2, with a horse-drawn carriage procession from her home to a local church.
