Brenda Edwards has revealed that “money issues” have been keeping her up at night. The singer and presenter appeared on Loose Women on Tuesday (October 13), alongside Charlene White, Coleen Nolan, and Janet Street-Porter.
During the ITV show, the conversation turned to new research suggesting that overthinking money worries keeps people awake at night. Charlene asked Brenda: “Are you an overthinker at that time?” Brenda replied: “Well, when it comes to money worries, it doesn't matter whether it's day or night for me.”
How Brenda copes with sleepless nights
Brenda explained: “The money worries that, you know, if you've got that in your head, I try my best not to worry about money as much as possible. But I think at nighttime now what I just do is just put on some music and try and get away in that way to something very light.”
She said the approach works for her, noting that it takes a couple of hours to unwind after returning from the theatre. “If I get home at half past 10, then I'll probably get into bed about midnight,” she said.
Emotional moment over son Jamal
The revelation comes after Brenda broke down in tears on the show earlier this year while discussing grief. Her son, Jamal, died at 31 after suffering a cardiac arrhythmia. Jamal was a pioneering music entrepreneur who founded SB.TV, a platform that helped launch the careers of artists including Ed Sheeran.
Discussing Kelly Osbourne’s remarks about her father Ozzy’s death, Brenda commended her. “I admit myself, when I was asked that question when Jamal passed, it was ‘I’m fine’, because I personally didn’t want to talk about it at that time because I was processing so many different things, still processing so many different things, and it’s only been four years,” she said.
Brenda added: “I didn’t want to put my grief onto somebody else, even though they’ve asked the question, I feel that you’re asking the question because you have to.” She went on: “I find it so comforting to hear stories about Jamal all the time. I love it, and I get messages from people, and it's really comforting. But there’s such a wave.”
She became emotional as she said, “It seems like 20 hours out of a 24-hour day, I'm just in a…,” before breaking down in tears, with host Kaye Adams reaching over to comfort her. Loose Women airs at 12:30pm on ITV1 from Monday to Friday.
