Jack Osbourne has welcomed his fifth child, a baby girl named Ozzy Matilda Osbourne, as a tribute to his late father, rock legend Ozzy Osbourne. The 40-year-old reality star shared a video on Instagram showing the newborn in a cot with a wooden plaque displaying her name, birth time (8:49 am) and weight (7 lb 12 oz). The child is his third with wife Aree Gearhart, after daughter Maple, three.
Ozzy Osbourne, the Black Sabbath frontman, died on 22 July 2025 at the age of 76. Jack's caption read: "Introducing Ozzy Matilda Osbourne", prompting an outpouring of congratulatory messages from fans. Dr Sasha Hall, an HCPC-registered senior education and child psychologist, said naming a baby after a deceased loved one can be a "gentle source of comfort" for a grieving family.
Dr Hall explained that such a tribute can reflect admiration and a wish to honour the parent's role. "Naming a baby after a parent can sometimes reflect admiration, affection or a sense that the relationship was deeply meaningful," she told HELLO! magazine. For baby Ozzy, who will never meet her grandfather, the name creates a "symbolic connection across generations", keeping his memory alive through family stories.
The psychologist noted that the decision may also indicate a long-standing family tradition or a quiet acknowledgment of the bond shared. Jack, the only son of Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, has previously spoken about his close relationship with his father. The new arrival comes just months after the family's loss, making the name a poignant reminder of the rock star's enduring influence.
