Penny Lancaster, wife of rock legend Rod Stewart, has shared intimate details of her IVF journey in a candid interview on BBC Breakfast. The model and Special Constable discussed her new memoir, revealing the lengths she went to in order to conceive, including injecting herself backstage at Rod's concerts and on planes.
Lancaster praised Stewart's unwavering support, saying he was 'very patient and very committed' and encouraged her to keep trying. She also recalled humorous moments, such as when the doctor examined Stewart's sperm under a microscope and found one with two heads and another with 'a couple of feet'.
The couple, who met at a Christmas party when a friend dared Lancaster to get an autograph, faced initial scepticism from her parents due to the age gap. However, her father, a City lawyer, wore a leather jacket to meet Stewart, who donned a pinstripe suit in return. 'They got on like a house on fire,' Lancaster said.
Lancaster also spoke about her dyslexia, which led to her being labelled a 'write-off' at school. She now advocates for open discussion about fertility issues and has overcome her reading difficulties to write a book and make public speeches.
